Happy Halloween

With the election coming up and political issues of high interest lately, it's been a while since many positive posts have been made here. While partaking in Beggar's Night with the young ones, I was reminded of the nostalgia of growing up in Minerva Park.

The rounds my child makes are the same as I once did, though a few homeowners and homes themselves have changed. It makes me think of the long resident families that have three or more generations of Minerva Park history tied to them. The community I saw last night was live and vibrant. There were lots of young families (naturally, seeing as it is largely a children's event) and many residents generously answered the calls of "trick-or-treat" from the newest generation in Minerva Park.

One of the things that takes me back to my childhood memories of Minerva Park and Beggar's Night is the police force slowly patrolling our neighborhood, stopping to pass out candy to the kids every block. As far as I know they have done this without fail every year and I think it is a great way to tie our police force into our community, something that should be preserved in our great village. I'd bet that most of those who previously did the trick-or-treating here would also remember the police stopping to hand out candy to them as well. I'm glad to see this continue.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween, and look forward to seeing the turn out again next year.
If you have any holiday memories from Minerva Park, please comment and share!

  1. Nice speech !!!!!!!!! IF CHANGES AREN'T MADE ON ELECTION DAY, MP IS QUICKLY GOING TO H--- IN A BREAD BASKET. SHOULD BE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE POLICE STOPPING DRUNK DRIVERS AND TRYING TO KEEP CRIME COMING IN FROM AROUND THE SURROUNDING AREAS, BEFORE YOU START HAVING DRIVE-BY SHOOTINGS, HOME INVASIONS AND A SERIOUS DRUNK DRIVING ACCIDENT Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Nice rant after an up lifting post about the Village. What the H*** is wrong with you people in Minerva Park?

  3. The police of Minerva Park are already doing a great job. I feel safe because I always see them patroling the area and they come to your aid when needed. What more do you want?

  4. Anonymous #1 - I'm unclear as to your point - (although you're trying to make it loudly). Are you saying that if the current mayor is re-elected you are going to invade our homes and drive around drunk?

Anonymous #2 - I agree with you. It seems as though some people hoping for a change not only like to complain, but they feel they can do it in any sort of forum (anonymously of course).

Anonymous #3 - I agree. What more do people want?

Blog initiator: Nice post! If I had memories to post here I would do so. This past trick-or-treat was nice and for your children a memory they will cherish!

  5. No, just trying to get a point across. You have a police chief that was fired from Sandusky police Dept (GOOGLE Kim NUESSE Police Chief Sandusky, Ohio fIRED) Is that the kind of chief you really want running your police dept. She is doing nothing but hiring officers that have been fired from other places or can't pass a background check. Is that the kind of officers you want patroling your streets. just saying This is all you will here from me, just hope you do your homework before you vote!!!!!!!!!!!!
    You have been warned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. I agree that it is time for Change. That chief has a problem with the truth.

  8. It is easy to merely voice someone else's opinion since you don't have to do anyting but react. How about someone doing some real research and not through the internet and find out the real issues involving this chief? You might be surprised to see how highly respected she is in the eyes of many other law enforcement organizations all across the state. If she were of dubious character, she wouldn't be admired and respected as she is and that's a fact. For those of you who are so quick to condemn her based on what someone else has said or what you may have read on the internet, you are doing yourself and our Village a disservice. But then again, what have any of you ever really done for our community besides complain because you didn't get your way?

  9. try talking to other officers from surrounding areas and if that doesn't suit your fancy take a trip to huron and erie counties instead of the internet. I am a grown adult not some young punk out for revenge, I did my research and what I am speaking is the truth. She may be respected but not by law enforcement, take a trip to Erie and Huron counties and speak with law enforcement up there. You don't tell your officers to do something then when it is brought to her attention lie and say you knew nothing. Thats it. throw your officers under the bus to save your own ass and job. Then comes to MP and does the same thing, and you call that a good chief. Still have time to take a short trip only takes a couple of hours to drive up north.

  10. Her management style is one of half truths and outright lies. This is what the judge said about your chief in her hearing for being fired for dishonesty! Again, this is what the judge said!!!

  11. Check with the former chief of Perkins Township about your chief. He is her biggest supporter and even testified for her in her hearing. He can be found in Federal prison in West Virgina.

  12. Chief Nusse is not respected in the law enforcement community. In fact, she has done a good job at embarrasing herself and the Village in rescent weeks. She and Mayor Armontrout have made a circus of the police department. Together, they violated Officer Gross' basic civil rights and spent thousands of dollars to fire him, then rehire him and then suspend him. The appeal was recently filed in Common Pleas court so stay tuned. I don't know either one of them nor do I live in the Village but the proof is right in front of your nose. Good luck MP voters! -- Mr Concerned

  14. You know it really sounds as if most of the MP residents have no clue what is going on. If they did I would think that these professional and retired residents would not put up with this crap. It goes look like a few of you have done some research but ther is so much more. The chief continues to lie, and what about the sexual harrassement charges that she has filed against an officer in Erie county. It seems as though she gets pleasure out of ruining officers lifes. There are at least 2 officers that i know of. What is wrong? She should never have been hired with the baggage that she carried with her from Erie County. Have any of you people ever question that? I don't even live in MP but do know that she has fired at least 2 part-time officers and 2 full-time officers have quit and gone to other departments, officers that have been with MP for years. Their reason for leaving was that they were hired to serve and protect and that was not what they were being told to do by the chief. I could go on and on but you need to start asking some serious questions about what the mayor and chief are up to, hopefully before election day. Good Luck

  15. You know as i sit here and go back over the blogs that have been posted I didn't really realize just how many problems there really are, and they all seem to go back to the mayor and the police chief.Had a chance over the weekend to go and speak with alot of the officers from the surrounding areas. Was going around in support of NO on issue 2, but i got a chance to listen, which is something the residents of MP for whatever reason can't or choose not to, and MP is beig called a circus. I have 2 brothers in law enforcement, one son, and 2 uncles that are firefighters, and they are amazed at the things that have been going on in MP over the past 9 months or so.Anyway, I could sit here all afternoon and go on and on about the mayor and the chief, but it takes a village to make the change. Good luck on election day

  16. You know...it probably never occurred to any of you that maybe the source of the whole problem was the FORMER Chief of Police and his management issues (ie: being too laid back and not managing the officers the way he should) Now that you have a Chief who takes the reins over a department that was in disrepair and in low morale because of an uncertain future, lack of training, and overall being led by an inexperienced and poor manager...you criticize her for trying to do what is right and getting rid of the bad apples in the bunch!! Shame on you all!

  17. I guess time will tell, won't it

  18. And time (and votes) has shown that the residents support Mayor Eisentrout and the Police Chief. Stop your complaining already!

  19. Maybe the police department was in disrepair and in low morale due to the over all inexperience and poor management by the village. There has still been word of low morale. It seems the mayor and police chief did attempt to get rid of one they feel was a bad apple and fell short due to their lack of knowledge, questionable integrity, and poor management.

  20. Well everyone should been jumping up and down for joy, you have your Mayor and Police Chief. Lets see what happens when the s--t hits the fan in a couple of weeks, maybe 3 months, maybe 6 months maybe even a year or so but it ain't over till the fat lady sings. Congrats

  21. In September 2011, just days after returning from his termination and then suspension, Minerva Park Officer Jason Gross was on patrol in the Village of Minerva Park. Officer Gross observed a suspicious person on the lot of the Yasmin Market, located at 5444 Cleveland Avenue in Minerva Park. As Patrolman Gross went to investigate, three males ran from the business. Officer Gross then observed the front door to the business had been forced open. He quickly gave chase and aired the information to the dispatch center. Although there were no apprehensions, a surveillance video showed that suspects were in the business for only seconds prior to Officer Gross’ intervention. Officer Gross’ keen observations and personal initiative minimized the loss of property to the Minerva Park business owner to less than $5.00. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the Breaking and Entering. Great Job, Jason!!
