Vote no this Tuesday! We're running out of money as a village. Why put this mismanagement into a business as well.

  1. Golf courses through out central Ohio are struggling right now. Changing the golf course into a 9 hole course is going to make it less likely for people to want to play there.

Just look at what the Village has done or not done with our swimming pool. Do you think the people who are running the pool are going to be able to make the decisions necessarily to make a golf course profitable?

So unless you want the Village to pay $ 1,000,000 for a park you should vote no for the bond issue on May 7th.

Voting no doesn't mean that there is going to be 300 houses on the golf course property, that's just what they want you to think is going to happen. The truth is nobody knows for sure what the developer is going to do if the Village doesn't buy half of the golf course.

The thing you can be sure of is that the developer wants the Village to pay $ 1,000,000 for half of a golf course that is valued at $ 1,500,000 according to the Auditors web site.

So if the Village doesn't buy half of the golf course who knows what the developer is going to do. It's my opinion that they are not going to want to spend another $1,000,000 to develop the golf course.

If a developer didn't need the Village to develop the property why has it been developed by now?

  2. I have to say that I believe it was the right thing for me to do voting yes.

Whether we get a 9-hole golf course, or an expensive green space, it will in the end be worth it. Once this goes through, they can never take it away. It can't be developed and must remain a green space forever. I am sincerely looking forward to playing many rounds on the 9-hole GC. Minerva Park is better off with the green space.

I do agree with Mr. Benedetti's assessment of the developer's options. They may or may not build 300 homes

That being said, I don't believe the current council should be left to run it or the Village of Minerva Park. They have somehow mismanaged the funds so that we are in a very precarious fiscal position. I also believe they believe they are doing what they think is best. The only way to change that is to change the makeup of the council. I am curious to see who is running in the fall and exactly which seats are up for a vote.

    1. It's going to be interesting to see what happens now that the levy was approved. There are many different things that have to happen before it's a done deal. The studies about the viability of a 9 hole golf course. And the biggest hurdle is going to be coming up with an annexation agreement that's agreeable to the Village and the developer. I believe that's what killed the last attempt to develop the golf course. So I don't think the fat lady is even warming up yet.

The Council positions that are up are McCreary, Legg, Segovia, and Park-Curry. I will be running and I believe Segovia will too, who else will remains to be seen. It only takes the signatures of 10 registered voters and about $30 to get on the ballot. I hope Virginwool will give it a shot it sounds like you understand what the problem is.

  3. For those who will be planning to vote for Mr. Benedetti, I would suggest that they first review his criminal AND personal lawsuit history on Franklin County Municipal Court website (www.fcmcclerk.com). It shows him being a property owner who has a habit of being charged by Columbus Code Enforcement. He clearly is not the best candidate who can pose a good opinion on financial responsibility or public trust because of his criminal history for drug abuse among other things.

  4. I knew if I ran for Council my criminal history would be brought up, and 4 hrs. and 3 mins. later the smear campaign begins. It's true that I made a lot of bad decisions in the past.

My problems with the Columbus Code Enforcement comes from a vacant rental property that I have had trouble maintaining. There's a long story behind it but I have made the repairs and hope to keep it up to code.

My history of drug abuse in the Village started off in Jan. of last year, when the Minerva Park police called out for a drug dog to inspect may van. At the time this happen I was in the house making dinner and the car was parked in front of my house. The dog alerted that there were drugs. I consented to a search at which time they found a small amount of marihuana.

In July of last year I missed a court date for my Housing Code violations in Columbus. They issued a warrant for my arrest for missing court. Apparently Minerva Park police monitor my status with Franklin County. A few days after the warrant was issued I left the house for work and was pulled over and arrested by MP police. They impounded my car and while doing so found a small amount of marihuana.

I understand that people may feel that this proves what a horrible person I am. I hope people are able to look past the mistakes I have made and consider the positive things I have done.

I have missed 3 Council Meetings in the past 5 years and have been to a lot of the other meeting they have. I have pointed out things that needed to be corrected and it because of this that many pieces of legislation have been passed. I feel you could say that I have effected more change than any member of Council has. I will be passing out flyers to explain these things in more detail.

Like I said before I have made a lot of bad decisions in the past and that's the difference between myself and some of the Village administrators I'm willing to admit it and face the consequences and let the votes fall where they will.

  5. Owning up to the childish acts, learning from them by not repeating the actions and not blaming others is what shows true responsibility. Tony, you have a repeat history of illegal behavior and as a citizen I have watched you in public (as well as in council meetings) and have to say that your actions scare me! I for one will not be voting for you if you run for office and I will strongly discourage anyone who even brings it up to me.

  6. I only blame myself for my history of illegal behavior and I don't think there is any reason to be scared of me, sorry you feel that way. It sounds like you are involved in the Village if you have been to Council meetings maybe you should run for Council

The last two commenters have described me as not being responsible and I take offense to that. I feel that I am one of the few people in the Village that is trying to be responsible by getting involved in the Village. You may not like what I stand for but I am exercising my right to try to make the Village the kind of place I want to live in and I will do everything I can to make that happen. That may scare some people, it just depends on what you want the Village to be.

Right now the Village is out of money and is going to ask the voters to approve a 1% Income tax increase in Nov.

I'd like to live in a Village that's more financially responsible. Does that scare you?

    1. To the person who is referring to me, please be sure to get your facts straight before you decide to listen to crooked cops, disgruntled former employees, and side with criminals. I threatened to sue the administrator of this blog because a person who posted something on here made false statements about me. I would have been well within my rights (that's right, cops do have rights to protection against false statements). Also please make a note to spell my name right and work on your writing skills, they speak volumes about your intelligence.

    2. Matt you have a lot of nerve referring to other cops as being crooked. Maybe you could explain how the reprimand you tried to give Jason Gross for not measuring the distances between street signs and was shredded by acting Chief Beach showed up in his personnel file.

Maybe you could explain why you withdrew from the Fraternal Order of Police, could it be that they were moving to remove you because you said it was o.k. for police to lie. I have the transcripts that's what you said, it may have been a bad choice of words but shows the way you think.

You were asked to get counseling for a outburst you had in a training session when you tried to defend the police for writing tickets for minor offenses. You feel this practice is a way to find out if someone is doing something else wrong. I understand that does some times lead to bigger things, but if you are that person who isn't doing anything else wrong it makes the police look bad. Like giving someone a ticket for a burned out license plate light, you could have gave them a warning but that's not the way you operate.

Matt your type of policing may be good in some communities, but I don't think it's what this community needs.

Now that I have said this I'm sure you will be pulling me over for doing 26 mph in a 25 mph, see you then.

The intent of this blog was to unearth the true goings on in Minerva Park. Unfortunately, emotions are highly tied to that. I also have veered more towards writing how I feel about something rather than the straight facts of what has happened when. While I don't guarantee that I will remain completely unbiased (to say that I could is a lie- unless giving straight facts as soon as they happen, there is always bias in what we do as humans) I will do my best to keep the facts at the forefront and the emotions second. Sometimes it may be a close second.

Thanks for your input everyone, and thanks to those of you who take the time to read this blog and get some of the information on what's going on around here.
